(From the left: Lisa Perkins (Senior) and Kristyn Sommers (Junior) as characters from Philip Reeve’s novel *Here Lies Arthur*; Professor Mary Unger as Dorothy Parker; Professor Ann Pleiss Morris as Shakespeare’s wife, Anne Hathaway, with her son, Julian, as a Hobbit; Lizzie Brown (Senior) as the eponymous character from “Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out” (a Shel Silverstein poem); Professor David Graham as Walt Whitman; and Professor Robin Woods.)
The Sigma Tau Delta Literary Halloween Party
On Friday, Oct 26th, members of the English Honors Society, Sigma Tau Delta, and English faculty members celebrated Halloween by dressing up as their favorite author or character.  The night included apple cider, hot chocolate, cookies, and delicious pumpkin chocolate-chip muffins (made by Senior Lizzie Brown!), as well as readings of literary texts related to everyone’s costumes.  It was a great chance to socialize outside of the classroom, and to discuss our favorite authors and works of literature in a casual, fun setting. This is one of several socials Sigma Tau Delta hopes to put on this year—there is talk of a future game night, which would include literary-themed board games such as Best-Sellers, The Play’s the Thing, It Was a Dark and Stormy Night, and even the “Book Lover’s” edition of Trivial Pursuit.
Stay tuned for more information on Sigma Tau Delta events, the English Department, and our upcoming post about the Ripon community event, Tiny Terror on the Square, which the English Department played an important role!
