What do Sean Connery, Flava Flav, and Michael Phelps all have in common? They’ve met our Future Red Hawk, Ben Mead. The High School Senior from Elgin, Illinois, is highly involved in after school activities such as Track and Field, Environmental Club, Stock Market Game Club, Theatre, Thespian Society, and the General Election Club. With graduation approaching, Ben also has a few other activities planned. “I’m excited to speak at the baccalaureate dinner, a dinner to honor graduating seniors, as the student speaker by my class,” said Ben, “I’m also really looking forward to being able to see all my teachers and classmates at graduation.” Outside of school he is a Boy Scout Troop Leader, Elementary school tutor, a Gospel Choir member, and most recently returned from an Outreach 360 Volunteer Tripo to Nicaragua. After graduation, Ben has a busy summer scheduled. “I plan to work at Army Lake Camp, a summer camp in East Troy, WI as a counselor,” said Ben, “I also can’t wait to attend Ripon’s summer orientation and met some of the new people I have gotten a chance to know this past week.” He’s also working with other admitted students in Wisconsin and Illinois to plan a pre-move-in day event so stayed tuned!

Speaking of moving to campus, Ripon will be the 9th city Ben’s lived in. Ben says, “I’m looking forward to getting to know my classmates and Professors. I can’t wait to meet them all next year and orientation this summer. I also can’t wait to attend some of the awesome Ripon traditions like the Community Welcome Potluck and the Yule Ball.” Alas, while he’s excited for all these new experiences, Ben has one worry. “I think my biggest challenge in college will be time management. It’s easy to get distracted from school work when there’s so much going on at Ripon.” Don’t worry Ben, we will make sure you stay on track! But we’ll also make sure you have plenty of time to do the things you enjoy most like drawing (see his Senior Art show photo below), hanging with friends, playing board and video games, and editing videos (see below).

As for a few random facts, Ben loves Harry Potter (Books/Movies), playing Basketball, and anything from IHOP (basically he loves breakfast food). Ben, look up Kristina’s in Ripon, best breakfast food around. Congratulations on being our “Admitted Student of the Week” Ben, we’re excited to see you this summer and when you move-in this fall!
